Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro crater is extinct volcanic caldera nestled inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands (NCAA). The caldera rim covered by highland forest and the crater floor covered by lake magadi, marshes area, swamps, water springs, lerai forest and open grassland.

The ngorongoro crater formed around 2.5 million years ago from a large active volcano whose cone collapsed inward leaving the present unbroken caldera, home to a diverse array of animals include lions, elephants, black rhinos, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, hippos, wildebeests, gazelles, pink flamingoes in lake Magadi and other bird species.
